11.

How should one cope with the

regression of a toilet trained child?

Sometimes, there is a regression after the child

is toilet trained, manifested in a large number of

accidents.

In these cases it is very important to

check three aspects:

a. General medical examination – is there

a physiological reason, such as a urinary

tract infection or illness of some kind that

could affect bladder control.

b. Neurological examination – is there an

exacerbation of convulsions, change in

body tone, and so on.

c. Clarification of emotional state – is there

any event or situation affecting the

child’s emotional state.

In any event, even if there is a physical or

emotional regression, it is important to continue

with the toilet training program. Changes can

be made to the program in accordance with the

child’s new needs, but no case should there be

a return to the use of diapers.
