KNOWLEDGE DEVELOPMENT
Beit Issie Shapiro’s greatest asset is the
knowledge that our professionals have amassed
over the years. In order to have even greater
impact throughout Israel and internationally, we
have embarked on the vital work of document-
ing our models and making them accessible
to other professionals and organizations. In
producing articles and handbooks, as well as
setting the stage for online dissemination, we
seek to vastly advance professional knowledge
and change the face of the disabilities field.
A GLOBAL FIRST IN RESEARCH
We built the world’s first instrument to measure
the perceptions of children aged 4 and 5 years
and assess how they felt about their peers with
disabilities. We discovered that children at a very
early age think, feel and act differently towards
children with disabilities and have negative
perceptions – the basis of future stigmas. We
are using the results to implement widespread
educational programs in kindergartens and
schools that will change these attitudes as well
as attitudes of their teachers and parents.
NEW: LOVE IS IN THE AIR!
For people with disabilities, forming relationships
can be incredibly stressful and challenging.
The Trump International Institute’s new course
on couplehood is the first of its kind in Israel.
In collaboration with the Inbar Dating Group,
the course teaches students with physical
and sensory disabilities how to communicate
effectively, foster a relationship built on trust
and understanding, and build self-esteem.
For participants who are blind, the sessions are
recorded and posted online.
